A final salary pension is an income promise, not a pot of cash. Comparing it with a transfer value into a personal arrangement means weighing certainty against flexibility — and the balance is rarely obvious from the transfer quote alone.

Before requesting a cash equivalent transfer value, gather the scheme booklet, early retirement factors, and any spouse’s pension details. Advisers need those to show what you would give up, not only what you might gain.

UK rules require advice for many transfers above a statutory threshold. Even below that level, a second opinion helps when the scheme includes inflation linking, early access options, or bridging pensions that are easy to undervalue.

Holloway Pension Partners will not rush a transfer recommendation. If the analysis shows the guaranteed income still fits your plans, we say so plainly and document why staying put is the better course.
